Singapore Cooperation Programme Training Calendar

It was a great honour to work with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the designer behind the 2017/18 Singapore Cooperation Programme (SCP) training calendar. The SCP has invited 112,000 participants from over 170 countries to visit Singapore, sharing with them the skills and experiences Singapore has acquired since independence.

The training calendars are distributed to an international audience, informing officials around the world about the timings of the various sharing sessions held in Singapore. For the 2017/18 calendars, the client desired a modern graphic design to make the calendar more exciting and less corporate-looking. In addition, the calendar had to reflect the fact that the SCP is now in alignment with the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

To meet these requirements, we utilised dynamic triangular patterns, layering triangles over present-day photographs in multiple sections of the training calendar. The triangles represent action and energy, giving the book a livelier vibe. At the same time, these photographs showcased famous landmarks of Singapore, from historical places such as the Raffles Hotel to the newly built Marina Bay Sands.

Furthermore, a myriad of bright coloured calendar divider tabs were used to mark out each section, making the training calendar more vibrant. Similarly, this was applied to the triangular patterns as well.

The calendar was embedded with different coloured UN Agenda for Sustainable Development logos in the top right-hand corner of relevant pages. This was done to clearly indicate which sections of the training calendar were related to a relevant goal.

To ensure that the training calendar was environmentally friendly, it was printed on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper. This meant that the pages were sourced from an ecological, economically viable and socially responsible manner. As a result, the eco-friendly pages provided thicker and rougher textures, allowing the calendar to have a sturdier feel.
