St Luke’s Annual Report 2015-2016

St Luke’s Hospital was formed in 1996 to serve the medical needs of the elderly. In 2016, the hospital celebrated its 20th anniversary. St Luke’s Eldercare, an offshoot of the hospital, was later formed in 1999 to provide more holistic care services to the elderly.

Both organisations required a graphic design company that could help create their 2015/16 annual report. The reports had to showcase various milestones and highlight how they have continuously contributed back to the community.

Our team proposed the idea of using connecting lines that would indicate the strong bonds between St Luke’s and the community. Each page in the annual report contained a long unbroken line that not only functioned as a page break but also symbolised the ongoing connections.

Furthermore, the lines were drawn with occasional zigzag lines. This was a reference to the heart beat lines on a electrocardiograph that demonstrated a strong, healthy beating heart. On top the lines, minimalist titles and web-drawn logos were used to give a more natural, light-hearted feel to the annual report.

In terms of the contents, we chose a clean-cut layout and a white background that represented cleanliness and the clinical atmosphere. As for the milestones, we chose a 4-page centrefold that popped out to show the timeline, allowing the reader to look at it without having to flip pages. Again, it was a single, long unbroken line that emphasised how closely linked the organisations were to the community.

We enjoyed the chance to go down to the St Luke’s organisation to meet with the staff involved and conduct photo shoots as well. The annual report have been an important project in understanding what St Luke’s have been doing for the community and how much they have done for their patients and beneficiaries. Dexel would like to extend a huge thank you to St Luke’s for giving us this opportunity to work with you.
